Dr Wang and colleagues from Massachusetts General Hospital to see the historical blood samples taken from 189 patients with diabetes before they show symptoms of the disease and compared with the blood of 189 healthy people.

After measuring the levels of metabolites of 61-by-product of metabolism found five amino acids are higher in people with diabetes. Some of these markers previously seen higher in people suffering from obesity or insulin resistance.
