Beware! Vehicle Pollution Linked Brain Damage

Big city residents may be familiar with the pollution caused by motor vehicle. This should not be considered trivial, because recent research indicates that U.S. motor vehicle pollution can cause memory loss and Alzheimer's disease.

The team of researchers from the University of Southern California has been experimenting with creating a common air pollution produced by vehicle fuel. They then expose it to certain air pollution rats for 15 hours per week within 10 weeks.

Particles contained in air pollution has a size of over one thousand times smaller than the width of human hair and too small to be filtered by the filtering system of the car. Even so, the damage caused by pollution are quite fatal.

"You can not see, but the pollution is inhaled it has a bad effect on the nerves of the brain and cause a risk of long-term brain damage," said one researcher, Caleb Finch, as quoted by the Straits Times.

Finch and his team discovered that pollution vehicles have a significant impact on brain nerves that affect the activity of learning and memory in rats. In addition they also detect the occurrence of inflammation that can cause premature aging and Alzheimer's disease.

"Of course, this study raises the question, 'How can we protect commuters from this poison?". The answer to that question can not be known, "said Finch who considered that more research is needed to determine whether the same effect is also found in human brain .
